Dear Church Secretary, Treasurer, Moderator and Pastor:
For anyone who has ever gone on Facebook, I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures with the captions, “Do you remember these?” I have to be honest, it’s one of the things that I don’t understand. I understand seeing pictures of people’s children and grandchildren. I understand seeing vacation scenes and pictures of puppies and kittens. Looking at a picture of a skate key, a percolator coffee pot, the glass dish used to juice oranges, a wringer washer, a rotary phone or fruit striped gum just reminds me that I’m old or maybe that I have a good memory. Why does anyone care if I remember those things? I don’t think life was better when those were the things that my grandparents, parents or my brothers and I had to use. I like all the conveniences and choices that we have now in all the areas of our lives.
When we talk about annual reports, I sometimes wonder if people have that same feeling I do, when I look at the pictures of old things that we used to use but no longer have a place or need in our lives. Nothing could be further from the truth. We absolutely need updated information about your pastor, the number of members in your congregation and how many baptisms have taken place. Years ago, ABCOPAD would produce a program for congregations and enlist churches to participate in that program from year to year. Things didn’t change much in most congregations. Pastors would retire or be called to another church, but most people stayed in their churches for 50 or 60 years and if they needed help, it was something to engage new people in the congregation. Now ABCOPAD is called to be flexible and find ways to help churches in their constantly changing landscape. How many churches are without pastoral leadership? How many churches have called bi-vocational pastors? How many churches have seen growth or a decline in membership this year?
You can fill out the hard copy of your church’s annual report or you can use the link above if you have access to the internet. The online form is very easy to complete and you can have different people fill out different parts if one person isn’t responsible for all the information. Please fill out your annual report for 2019 and return it or go online and submit your church’s information. It is possible for you as a church leader to view your church's information contained in the American Baptist Churches Information System. Information is available at the American Baptist Churches Information System (ABCIS) website. (www.abcis.org)
To access the ABCIS website you will need to request a username and password from Caryl Casey, ABCOPAD Treasurer. Email Caryl at CarylJC@aol.com or call (800) 932-9442. Requests will be processed as quickly as possible. Once you have your username and password, you will be able to log into the ABCIS website and view your church information. Security is set up so you can only view your own church data. Once you enter the ABCIS website, it is recommended that you start at the Report Center. Annual Report Forms and Information
The Annual Report collects statistical, leadership, and financial information. The data is widely used for variety of purpose, including:
- Determining the number of ABC Biennial Delegates for your church
- Regional and national directories
- Statistical reporting both within ABC and in inter-denominational publications
- Congregational Profile reports for pastoral search committees
- Per capita calculations for financial reports and recognitions

- The website of annualreport.abcis.org reacts best if accessed by internet explorer.
- The person filling out the form online MUST have a copy of the church's annual report form to access the website. They are asked for the church's pin number but more importantly they must use the church leadership pin to access the login. This means that if a church has any leadership listed, they must use that leadership pin.
- If a church does not have any leadership listed, they are able to use ABCOPAD's (the Region's Pin). This number will NOT work for them if they have a leadership pin available. Contact Caryl Casey, Denise Veselicky, or Mark Mahserjian-Smith to assist with leadership pin number.
